Mavne pro nas dokonce na pani na stanku, at nam udela Ca Phe Sua Da a Tra Da. Ledovy kafe a ledovej caj. Moje Vietnamstina se exponencialne zlepsuje. Dopijeme, loucime se s nasima vecma a doufame, ze je jeste nekdy uvidime. Pan ma o nas trochu strach, prece jen je to asi 130 km. Ale to nevi, ze sme skutr life natrenovaly uz na Bali. Nejhorsi je mestsky provoz, na dalnici uz se jede samo. Trochu je nam jasny, ze budem litovat, ze sme se nenamazaly opalovakem a ze jedinej dlouhej rukav, co mame s sebou, je sustakova bunda. Zastavujem u na mape vyznacenyho mista jmenem Elephant springs a moc nevime, co od toho cekat. Ma to byt koryto reky uprostred narodniho parku Bach Ma. No jsme neprijemne prekvapeny, ze je z toho udelana turisticka atrakce v podobe igelitem ohranicenych bazenku v korytu one reky. S hnusnou sochou slona uprostred jednoho z bazenku. Nechybeji samozrejme vtiravy Vietnamci vnucujici koupaci vesty, nafukovaci kruhy a podobny hovadiny. Domca je otravena a chce jit zpet, ja rikam, ze se pujdu mrknout o kus nahoru a nachazim super skrytou lagunu v korytu reky, kde nikdo neni. Protoze je asi tak tisic stupnu, tak tam rovnou na evicku skacu. Pak se vracim pro otravenou Domcu a dotahnu ji tam. Uz neni tak otravena a skace tam taky. Obcas staci udelat par kroku dal od nejvic turistickych mist k objeveni prave krasy. Okusujou nas mini rybky a malem se zabijem na kluzkych kamenech, ale nelitujem. Osvezeny mirime zpet k silnici, kde davame super obed. Crispy duck a pork ribs primo z grilu. S plnymi zaludky znovu nasedame na skutr a mirime na Hai Van Pass. Jeden z nejkrasnejsich horskych prusmyku na svete, v jehoz nejvyssim bode jsou zbytky vietnamskych valecnych bunkeru. Uz tady citime, jak mame spaleny stehna a ramena. Ale vyhled 10/10. Az na turisty. Ale to by nebyl Vietnam. Jeste pozorujem, jak se na vrcholku nejzachovalejsiho bunkru foti nevesta s zenichem a mizime smer Da Nang. #travel#dnescestujem#czechgirl #vietnam#skinnydipping

The Thai language Places and Prices coffee table magazine published an issue 2 years back with top Thailand destinations. These were their choice of best waterfalls, without ranking:

• Klong Thom Ron waterfall (being a waterfall as well), Krabi, Southern Thailand
• Huai Khamin waterfall, Kanchanaburi, Central Thailand
• Thi Lo Su, Tak, Northern Thailand
• Thi Lo Re, Tak, Northern Thailand
• Khlong Lan, Kampaeng Phet, Central Thailand
• Tat Mok, Phetchabun, Central Thailand
• Saeng Chan, Ubon Ratchathani, North-Eastern Thailand

Crystal clear

Falls or rapids? Definitely rapids. This small but deep stream flows through a forest not far from sea. The water is cool, cold just coming from a cave. We went here after a full day kayaking to the north (Bor Thor) back in mid 2005.

For tourists the site is called Crystal Stream, for locals Tha Pom. Due to the alternating salt and fresh water a distinct ecosystem has appeared.

'This has resulted in the development of three different forest systems in a very concentrated area. For many years the area was regarded as sacred so the natural ecology was not affected by agriculture or settlement'.

Facilities include a huge market and a walkway through the forest above the stream. Entrance is just 50 THB. Even during the week there are many visitors though never crowded. Better in early morning. There are also a number of platforms and steps to get in the stream. Caution as the sides of the stream are packed with sharp stones.

From Krabi town, take Highway 4 in the direction of Ao Luek (north). At Km 126, take a left turn and go for another 5 kilometers.

Krabi is simply a beautiful place to visit, what with Railay beach, beautiful islands off shore, hot springs, mountains and mangroves. Never a dull moment. Tha Pom is well worth a visit.

Before the deluge ...

Koh Lanta back in 2000 was still quite deserted, especially out of season. Since though this part of Krabi province has slowly been developing, though it's still quiet in comparison to other neighbouring places due to it's relative remoteness: no airport, the island is only reachable by ferry and no large cities nearby.

We stayed at the last resort then, Waterfall Bay Resort I believe was the name, it's name has now been changed to Andalanta Resort. Not much but a huge windswept beach. Being the only guests at the resort, service was a bit slow. I do remind it quite well, as while I was receiving a massage, a snake fell out of tree canopy above into my lap sending the masseur in a hasty retreat whereas I was oblivious to the snake though I did come to senses following the yelps of the masseur.

Anyway ambling along the only stream on this beach for just under an hour brings you to the waterfall, a steady stream 5-6 m high. Good thing was that you can shower underneath. Back then it was untouristed and besides millions of leeches there was nobody to encounter. Nowadays elephants do the trek, so bathing as above may not be possible anymore. At least if you do not want to outrage somebody (silly expression for something so natural).
